6-13-2013 Belton Tx open carry event was a huge success! About 15 guys/girls armed with AR’s/AK’s/Shotguns/.22lr’s/etc met at the old HEB on 6th and Main street at 7pm. We went on our stroll down Main, turned at the courthouse, went down past Schlofs BBQ , turned and went past the courthouse all the way back up to 6th St and then back to Main. It was about 1.5 miles that took 50 mins. We were approached 3 times by onlookers that wanted to find out how to get involved. We had no negative encounters (a lot of weird looks thou) and we had no encounters with the Belton PD. The chief of Police in Belton knows the law and respects our rights and had stated that he has no problem as long as its all done legally and safely with respect to the citizens of the town.

open carry is not going to pass any time soon. your group needs to be careful in its action and make every effort possible to make friends and work with the police departments in the areas you have events. i do see that you have done some of this so dont email me heated comments in defense. i am on your side. but understand that the average street cop esp now are not fully aware of the laws and for the most part really dont care.they have a tough job. keeping eyes on small groups that are upsetting others is an extra expense and stress. they see job one as busting bad guys and job two keeping and protecting peace. when all the hippys libs and atheist are all bent out of shape calling the police and making complaints about your actions and making threats about lawyers they are forced to do something about it. thats why innocent folks get put in cuffs and law officers just hang up the phone. in the mind of the officer they have just reason and cause for the arrest they were keeping peace. i know the law and the rights we have or had may be a better way to state it. in order to keep what we have we need to understand what the fight is against. it must be understood that texas is now full of far extreme left wing people who welcome communism and socialism. they have no concept of what either of those truly are. they have no understanding of true history, they drink all the kool aid. when they see a gun they panic. then they call the police and then a lawyer and then they cry about being in fear and then exploit the children and put them on the news crying about being in fear of the crazy gun toters etc etc on any media out let that will allow it. the media is anti gun. period. your fight would gain ground faster by a media blitz pointing out how crime rates are lower in open carry areas, how legally armed person have been past a strict back ground check etc.and are not in any way a threat to the community.its the ones that are not legal gun owners that buy them in back alleys with no back ground checks that are a threat. drug dealers, murders rapist and political figures are threats. it is only my idea view that this groups actions would be better embraced if there were public events several times in a row in a place with no guns just law truth and information for all that come by to gain. speak with the local law and other community groups like lions clubs knights of columbus, schools etc. some schools have rifle teams still. tcu in fort worth has a marksman team, they are pretty goods what i hear. you get the idea. see if these other groups want to share in the event. make it family friendly and fun, allow pets and kids sell popcorn have a petting zoo etc. then after the stage is set bring out the open display of weapons if you must. folks fear what they dont understand. ironically they fully hold to things they dont know the truth about also. the view and understanding of armed people in our society must be addressed first. the law the truth and foundations for the rights we have are on our side, but things are easily taken away and enforced wrongly when things are not presented carefully. i feel that too many public marches without information being flooded first will lead folks to work even harder to remove the rights we have left. many political figures have made the work and goal of life removing guns from americans. they have huge support and funding. they dont make mistakes. the chance of them getting it done its very very high. again i say i am on your side. so dont take my comments wrong . i just wanted to point out a few ideas that may help this get stronger and go further. please consider the info blitz and un armed events. thank you .

Hate the tactics used right now by the OC advocates. They maybe ruining a favorable natural path forward for gun owners which feel they need OC.
I must ponder the OCT qualifications due to fact no organization leaders are named on prime website. I’d like to know some of their bio’s even without full names. We know the agenda to rightfully uphold 2nd but who are they. Do they have CHL’s. Why do they feel to march with long guns since its legal and why will this help pass OC. Will they settle for OC with permit?
They claim to get people used to seeing open display of arms. Guess everyone will no longer look an open holstered hand gun with fear anymore thanks to this group.
Calf chances were ruined due to groups like this. This group will deny this claim. They are blind.
Well if OC passes to some degree are they going to be the only ones with open hand gun in public until they get bored and novelty wears off?
My group is prepared to file class action law suits against OCT if OC fails passage and if consensus deems actions by this group influenced decision. Will publish through media contact info pending outcome.

Advise to you advocates running around with open long guns.
Back Off. Use your 1st to protect 2nd. Citizens on the street and in businesses where you OC long guns are put off and pressuring law makers not to pass your carry agenda. They are not comfortable around guns & don’t know if bad or good guy. You are shooting your cause in the foot.
Be professional come up to level of the people your dealing with including dress and actions. Right now you all are looked down on like your from the gutter and hold meeting in biker bars.
So go ahead with your theatrical displays for media exposure. You have no clue how counterproductive this is do you?

Well, it seems you were proven false. Not only did open carry pass, but campus carry and other pro-gun bills passed. Also, not a single bill was even introduced to stop us from carrying rifles. So, since it seems we were on the right path and our efforts paid off, let me address your questions:

I’d like to know some of their bio’s even without full names. We know the agenda to rightfully uphold 2nd but who are they. Do they have CHL’s. Why do they feel to march with long guns since its legal and why will this help pass OC. Will they settle for OC with permit?

The president of Open Carry Texas is CJ Grisham. He is a retired First Sergeant with over 20 years of Army service. He was a Counterintelligence Special Agent in the Army specializing in counter-terrorism. He has worked with law enforcement from the local to federal level as a part of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. As for whether they have concealed handgun licenses, that has no bearing in any way whether they are “qualified” to fight for gun rights. While we won’t “settle” for OC with a permit, we support any bill that removes infringements – even if only on paper – to our right to keep and bear arms. We are adamantly opposed to mandatory permits as this is a direct violation, be believe, of our right to keep and bear arms as protected by the 2nd Amendment and Article I, Section 23 of the Texas Constitution.

They claim to get people used to seeing open display of arms. Guess everyone will no longer look an open holstered hand gun with fear anymore thanks to this group.

Very true and thank you for noticing. In just six months, the 911 call rate in response to our members carrying long guns decreased over 95%. People learned that our actions were not only peaceful, but legal. We succeeded in that. When the open carry of handguns is legal, it will be no big deal since people have already seen long guns. So, we appreciate you recognizing the value of our education efforts.

Calf[sic] chances were ruined due to groups like this. This group will deny this claim. They are blind.

Do you now admit you were wrong and were blind?

Well if OC passes to some degree are they going to be the only ones with open hand gun in public until they get bored and novelty wears off?

For the most part you are actually correct about this. We have even asked our members to open carry for at least the first three months even if they wouldn’t normally open carry. That way people can get used to seeing it as no big deal. Most of us will continue to conceal carry except when it isn’t prudent for comfort or weather purposes. Like other states, open carry isn’t going to be a widespread phenomenon. We simply believe in having the choice and the we got it beginning January 1.

My group is prepared to file class action law suits against OCT if OC fails passage and if consensus deems actions by this group influenced decision. Will publish through media contact info pending outcome.

This is laughable on its face. You see, in order for a lawsuit to be valid, one must be able to prove damages. Since open carry was illegal prior to our efforts, there are no damages because you aren’t losing a right you didn’t already have. Open carry does not cause monetary damages and does not cause you emotional duress. Your threats fall on deaf ears though we would have been happy to embarrass you in court considering all the successful legal battles we’ve already won for unlawful arrests. But, please continue to live in your own little world. I suspect we can expect a press release praising our efforts now? I’m not holding my breath.

Once again, you were proven wrong. Perhaps you should have joined us when you had the chance to be a part of a movement that actually accomplishes a return of gun rights.

Be professional come up to level of the people your dealing with including dress and actions. Right now you all are looked down on like your from the gutter and hold meeting in biker bars.

The 2nd Amendment has no dress code and our clothing will not be dictated by anyone. What people think about us fighting for gun rights is irrelevant.

So go ahead with your theatrical displays for media exposure. You have no clue how counterproductive this is do you?
